Archive > Abstracted Body, Maeve Holmes

Maeve translates images taken from the natural world, in this case the human life drawing model, by the formation of a new arrangement as an alternative reality. By deceptively obscuring the original representation, the work summons confusion to some extent with the reconfiguration of the physical and digital.

Through abstraction the artist's work critically interrogates and disrupts our visual perspective of the human body.

Sharing the same space as the work, the viewers’ imagination is provided with fragments of representation now imaged far from reality, whilst engaged with the tactile qualities of the paintings’ materiality, gesture and abstraction.
