Archive > Andrew Duong, Divide & Connect

Exhibition runs from 26pm June – 3pm 9 July 2015.

In my work paint is the tool I use to speak out about the problems of power and balance in society. Recent work is often motivated by a past family history in Cambodia. Photos of this family history do not exist and in some ways are recreated through painting. Power and balance are issues that are found in this past but are also continuously present. Images representing this are altered through painting and the addition of text. This technique involves using minimal colours and leaving the work at an almost unfinished stage. The specific story is less clear but through the viewer it can create a relation to these overt gestures and signs. This potentially gives the audience the ability to fill in the gaps with their own ideas and beliefs, connecting to the work in alternate way.

This exhibition is attempting to highlight power as a product of a divide and control.
