Archive > Clair Bremner, Into the Valley

Exhibition runs from 13th of November to 3pm, 26th of November 2015.

Into the Valley is a collection of landscape paintings inspired by my home area in the Yarra Valley, east of Melbourne. They are a combination of real and imaginary scenes that are both whimsical and compelling. The flowering trees and shrubs that are on show from late winter through to the end of spring provide constant inspiration. The variety of colours and textures, as well as changing light and weather can make the same scene appear vastly different from day to day. Sometimes foggy, other times with a bright blue sky, trees of green, pink, purple and yellow can be found everywhere and often appear right out of a fairy tale.
I work with acrylic on canvas and I rarely plan my paintings in detail before I begin. Instead I rely only on a quick sketch to work out the composition and from there I work spontaneously and use my intuition to choose colours and patterns. I add and subtract layers until I feel that the piece is finished. Some of the landscapes are more abstract, others are more literal. My goal is to create artworks that are visually beautiful, calming and organic. My paintings are highly decorative, however I feel they also serve as a reflection of the beauty and complexity that nature provides. I like to create art for real people to go into real homes that are a visual feast for the eyes and will be enjoyed for generations to come.
Putting this collection together has been a wonderful experience. I hope you enjoy it and that it inspires you to visit this beautiful area of Melbourne. |
