Archive > Justin AF Perkins, Threepenny Opera

Exhibition runs from 13th of November to 3pm, 26th of November 2015.

The Threepenny Opera is a vaudevillian melodrama, a voyage if you will, through the seedy underbelly of late 1920's Berlin.
A culture of petty theft, prostitution and violent crime at night, and skyrocketing inflation, poverty and unemployment during the day.
I have been a long time fan of German Expressionism and The Threepenny Opera lent itself as a medium to explore the world of degenerate art in the 1920's and 30's. In 1931 as the free reign of the German Expressionists came to an end, a movie was made called The Threepenny Opera which I have borrowed stylised stills from.
Using my naive surreal style I've played in this mythical world.
I've always strived to be described as a degenerate in my work and play.
