Archive > Mia Schoen, Gowanbrae Time

Exhibition runs from 6pm 7 August – 3pm 20 August 2015.

An exhibition of studio and plein air paintings presenting the subject of the new estate: Gowanbrae, as seen developing into the horizon line from my studio view in Jacana. Continuing on from my investigation of this theme (the new estate) a style of globally homogenous development of closely packed massive McMansions built with speed for profit that can have an appearance of film set like flimsiness. Portentous modern ruins populate and are in denial of the environment, impermanent in contrast to the timeless vastness of the natural world. The studio works document and monumentalise moments in a 10 year time-line, while the plein air works capture an experience of ‘place’ interpreted via paint through immediate time – Gowanbrae Time.
