Archive > Scissors : Paper : Rock, Kelly Sullivan

This body of work spans timeless culture and represents Kelly's memories of growing up in the early 1970s and beyond. The artist depicts their subjects in various colourful forms to create representational images of celebrities and musical icons. Kelly continues to be influenced by iconic popular culture and our attraction to it. The central focus of this work relates to the timelessness and the indefinable x-factor of the chosen subjects, recapturing their essence in the artist's own way. In Kelly's mind, these people embodied individualism and were nothing but authentic. Kelly continues to be inspired by the pioneers of sonic innovation and silver screen who gave birth to the music and culture we know today, and are still identifiable in today’s saturated image culture.

Kelly was born in Melbourne and studied Graphic Arts in the 80’s, when light boxes and squeaker textas ruled! She moved to Sydney in the 90’s and embraced the culinary delights of two minute noodles, and pulled 10,345 beers, whilst attaining an Arts Degree at the National Art School in Darlinghurst. 19th August - 1st September
