Archive > Zara McKenzie, Mauve Dualities

Exhibition runs from 6pm 7 August – 3pm 20 August 2015.

Mauve Dualities brings together a collection of drawings, paintings and resin works that are united through the core element of the artist`s practice - colour. This exhibition explores the artist`s different approaches and uses of colour across subjects of figuration, still life and abstraction. The curves and soft forms of the female figure represented are intimate in scale and naturally translate across into the round and feminine mauve tones of the predominately larger scaled abstract works imbued with colour, gesture and a renewed sense of painterly freedom. Often the two styles morph into one as exploration of the figure is constantly revisited and closely acquainted with the artist`s abstract colourist practice. The abstract works are painted responses to the spills, marks and artistic residue that inspires and is often overlooked in the studio context. Working closely with the studio as a core source of inspiration, the resin works are miniature paintings that capture the artist`s many paint palettes that form the debris that colours the studio space, inviting pleasure in their playful and intuitive design. The Artist lives and works in Melbourne she has a Bachelor of Fine Arts and is currently undertaking her Masters in Education at the University of Melbourne.
